Construction works have begun at Dombotombo walk up flats in Mashonaland East Province in Marondera. The recently held ground breaking ceremony marked the continuation of preliminary works which will see the delivery of four blocks of flats as the Government of Zimbabwe scales up efforts to deliver 220 000 housing units by 2025.
In his address while officiating at the ceremony, the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Honourable Daniel Garwe explained that the Ministry is expected to provide adequate, affordable and functional human settlements for the entire populace of Zimbabwe. He noted that numerous projects have been taken on board within the 2022 budget year allocation. ‘My Ministry is therefore continuously engaging local authorities and private partners for win-win partnerships in housing delivery.
In outlining the project status, Engineer Joy Makumbe who is the Permanent Secretary, indicated that the Ministry was constructing 4 blocks of 2 bedroomed flats intended to accommodate 64 families.She pointed out thatthe project is expected to be complete within a period of seven (7) months.
Speaking on behalf of Leengate, the contracting company, Engineer Kennedy Mabunu confirmed that the firm would meet the stipulated deadlines.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is spearheading the implementation of the National Housing Delivery Programme earmarked to deliver 220 000 housing units by 2025 as outlined in the National Development Strategy (NDS1). The Strategy is part of a broader vision towards achieving Vision 2030 which is premised on achieving a Prosperous and Empowered Upper Middle Income Society by 2030.
